As I was driving to Long Island on Thursday to Tony Spina’s funeral it occurred to me that in an odd coincidence, I was about to do the Wand Ceremony for him that eight years earlier I did for Jack Ferero who was his partner at Tannen’s.
You see, in 1979 when I graduated high school, Jack and Tony made me an offer I could not refuse. Every young magician’s dream at the time was to work in a magic shop… and this was the biggest in the world!
I worked there for nine years and that is where I met most of my friends and learned about the business of magic. Both Jack and Tony were very helpful and generous with their advice and friendship which lasted long after we stopped working together and their retirement.
This truly and officially ends my era at Tannen’s which I believe was also an exciting time in magic during the Doug Henning phenomenon and the rise of David Copperfield as the greatest of all time.
End Of Times:
The title of this week’s product is only a coincidence. Ryan Matney finally released book two of his End Of Times magazine. This is full of routines you will like. I especially liked three of the routines that are easy, interesting and will be fun to play with and fool my friends.
Routines include: Rigged Result (John Carey), That’s Odd (Al Bach), Let’s Cut A Deal (Scott Kahn), Depth Perception Assembly (Jay Jayaraman), Antithesis (Phil Dean), Pencil Illusion (Kyosuke Kira), Mixology (Cannibal Nick Trost), Psychic Rip-Off (Ryan Matney), and Gypsy CAAN (John Carey).
And as before, Ryan agreed to hand-autograph all the copies for me.

Comix Roadhouse:
Next Sunday I will be teaming up with David Garrity to present our edition of the Spinnato Magic Matinee. It will take place at the newly named, Comix Roadhouse, at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut.
The show starts at 5pm and the tickets are very inexpensive. Unless you decide to gamble at the second largest casino in the United States! Then there is also a possibility that you will earn more than me!
