“Joseph Gabriel Magic ’98,” the long running Off-Broadway magic show, closed on Saturday May 2. Reasons given were previous obligations of the Lambs Theater. There are three more pre-sold performances scheduled at mid-month. Rumor has it that there are several offers to move the show to another theater or Atlantic City.(5/4)

There was a press release circulated on May 4 which gave the results to a poll asking for “the top ten magic personalities (living) today?” The results were picked up by many papers and radio stations. They reported that number one was David Copperfield and number two was Herbert Becker. What they did not report was that the poll was taken and released by Becker’s website. Also interesting in the press release is the following statement: “Becker the master magic exposer (Television Masked Magician?).” Is Becker implying that he is the Masked Magician?(5/8)

Enrique Lugo, an actor, replaces James Brandon as the magician in Dick and Lynne Foster’s “Imagine, A Theatrical Odyssey” at the Luxor in Las Vegas. Shows are at 7:30 and 10:30 p.m., except Tuesdays.(5/8)

“Jensen Magic,” starring Pete Jensen opened at the Mercury Theatre in Chicago on May 3. Jensen a 27-year-old, Dallas-based illusionist, says that he hopes to run for several months before moving to Broadway. Show will run through June 21 with eight shows per week.
