Ricky Jay’s magazine Jay’s Journal of Anomalies which debut in 1994 has announced that it will “suspend publication indefinitely.” The current issue which was just mailed to subscribers rounds out volume four. Volumes 1-3 contained four issues per year while volume 4 was reduced to three issues. As a parting gift all subscribers will receive a free bonus issue which will be mailed to them in a few months. That would make a complete set consist of 16 issues.(9/6)

The article gave a brief history of King’s career and then he was asked about the masked magician. The Magic Circle, which is based in London, has just finished its election cycle with this being only the second time in its history that someone ran in opposition to the president. 633 ballots were returned with the following results: Michael Bailey (444 votes), retains his presidency against Fay Presto (166). Ali Bongo (389 votes), defeats Chris Pratt (239) for Vice-President. Brian Miller was unopposed and remains the Treasurer. Chris Pratt (463 votes) defeated Brian Sibley (159) to retain his post as Secretary. The following were elected to the Council of The Magic Circle: Alan Shaxon (502 votes), Ali Bongo (488), Janet Clare (461), Anthony Owen (418), Jack Delvin (393), Richard Stupple (363), Peter Scarlett (356), Derrick Speight (349), Ian Keable (342), Henry Lewis (341), Fay Presto (339), Graham Reed (313), Alan Snowdon (296), Rupert Connell (290), and Christopher Woodward (286). The Theory and Art of Magic is a lecture series produced by Dr. Lawrence Hass for Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA which will run from Sep. 8 through Oct. 14. It appears to be official that David Copperfield and Claudia Schiffer have split up. The news has been reported in about a dozen newspapers around the globe. Also reported is that Copperfield is now dating Angelica Castro while Schiffer has been seen with Bruce Hoeksemar or Tim Jeffries depending on which newspaper you want to believe.(9/9)

Steve Wyrick signed an eight year deal with the Sahara Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas to be its headliner in the new $22 million 950-seat theater with a special retractable roof to allow for Wyrick’s Helicopter illusion. The show is scheduled to open in February 2000. Currently Wyrick can be seen at the Lady Luck through New Year’s Eve.(9/10)

Magic On The Edge is scheduled to be a new half-hour, weekly series on the FOX Family Channel. The show which is being co-produced by Jim Steinmeyer promises the world’s greatest magic and masters of illusion taking “…the viewers into a world of mystery and magic to show everything from the bizarre to the spectacular.” John Carney, Mike Caveney, Christopher Hart, Pat Hazell, Mark Kalin & Jinger, Mr. Mysto, Nicholas Night & Kinga, and The Pendragons are among the performers which have already been taped for the series. The World Magic Awards will be taping live in front of a studio audience on Monday Sep. 13 from 6-8pm at the Hollywood Palladium in Hollywood, California.
