David Copperfield’s Magical Underground does not appear to have any life left. The feature article in the Sunday New York Times Business section, titled “Poof! $34 Million Vanishes on Broadway,” they chronicle the demise of this project. One of the surprising revelations are that midway through the project when Copperfield threatened to quit, the investors approached Lance Burton about taking it over. Even though the project is 85% complete it will probably never open due to the anger among investors. Last month the largest investor seized control of the property and is trying to rent it for more than $2 million dollars per year. The legal system will most likely be used to sort out the affair. Just got back from a preview of Siegfried & Roy: The Magic Box. The movie was delayed as we waited for Siegfried & Roy to make it to the theater. Upon arrival Roy thanked everyone for coming and stated that the movie based on their life story is inspirational and magic is all around us. Siegfried then commented that you should never let your partner speak ahead of you because Roy said everything he wanted to say. The movie itself was larger than life. The performance sequences, shot at their theater in Las Vegas, were the highlights. The technology used for the IMAX-3D is unbelievable — you actually felt that Siegfried & Roy were performing two inches from your face. You got to experience their stage illusions in what could be called close-up conditions. The detail and picture quality is amazing. The animal sequences made you feel like reaching out and touching the tigers and lions — it looked that real. When the movie opens in your area go see it — the technology is just as amazing as the magic.
