Danny Orleans reported that in addition to he and Lisa Menna there were more that 15 magicians performing at the Net-World Interop Trade show in Atlanta last week. Performers included Phil Ackerly, Joel Bauer, Karen Berris, Harrison Carroll, Bob Garner, Billy Harris, Steve Kradolfer, Mark Phillips, Jon Stetson, Dick Stoner, Barry T., and David Williamson. Also on the floor were three juggling acts, a Cirque du Soleil type act, and a Stomp music and dance act complete with trick cyclists and rollerbladers.(10/26)

Many newspapers and TV news shows have been reporting the story that USA Today broke on Wednesday Oct. 21. In a report by Jeannie Williams titled, “Copperfield proves love life no illusion,” David Copperfield is stated to have filed a $30 million law suit against the French magazine Paris Match in the Manhattan Federal District Court. It seems that his arch nemesis Herbert Becker, who has recently turned a new leaf, confessed to giving Paris Match a forged contract which stipulated that Copperfield and Claudia Schiffer had an arranged relationship.(10/27)

Criss Angel’s World of Illusion runs at Madison Scare Garden, Madison Square Garden’s annual Halloween spectacular, through Nov.1. Angel performs four grand illusions in five minutes. Preliminary results from the Swann Galleries Magic Auction in NYC on Oct. 29 reveal that 268 of the 319 lots sold for a hammer total of $173,420. Add to that total a 15% commission and 8.25% sales tax and the total spent exceeds 200 thousand dollars. The Highlight of the auction was item number 184, a “group of 9 small conjuring pamphlets” from the 19th century which was estimated to go for $200/300. Fierce bidding between Mario Carrandi and Byron Walker rapidly skyrocketed from the $110 opening bid all the way up to the final $12,000 bid by Walker to a thunderous round of applauds. Other items of interest were the three Houdini items signed to his brother Nat: Magician Among the Spirits- $13,000, Miracle Mongers and Their Methods did not sell (high bid of $8,500 was below the minimum), and the signed photo sold for $5,000. The Houdini/Buried Alive! poster sold for $9,500.(10/31)

The Second Deal, a web based magic magazine, run by Jason Alford which started about a year and a half ago is no longer free. Starting Nov. 1 visitors will need to pay a modest $20 per year as a subscription fee. Some of the top “card men” have contributed to this site and regularly visit.
