Jim Bently who stars as Houdini in the play, “The Great Houdini,” which runs through May 30 at the Stella Adler Theatre (Hollywood, CA) is profiled in the May 16 Los Angeles Times. In promoting the show Bently did an upside down straitjacket escape 40 feet above the theater on Apr. 19 and will do a Milk Can escape on May 19 at 10am outside the theater trying to beat Houdini’s record of 4 minutes and 32 seconds. Show goes up in smoke is the title of a news article which ran in the May 21 issue of The Press. It seems that magician Nick Nickolas who was performing at the Green Room in Christchurch, New Zealand last Wednesday triggered the smoke alarms when he burned a $20 bill. The theater had to be evacuated while the fire department made their inspection. Nickolas, a veteran street performer, followed the audience out and continued his show outside.
