The Oil & Water plot with cards was David Solomon’s favorite routine. I remember one time during the last century when he invited me and a few other magicians to his hotel room for a session. He must have shown us more than ten different versions with different phases.
I remember when the version offered below came out. It used Jumbo gaffed cards. David loved the idea of using Jumbo cards when performing close-up magic since he would point out that, “It is impossible to use sleight-of-hand with these large cards.”
When it came out, I remember the sleight-of-hand guys at the cafeteria bitching that using gaffs for this effect is silly since it can be done with extra cards and sleight-of-hand. But of course, the reason behind it was that you can do it with Jumbo cards, in the spectator’s hands (since there were no extra cards used), and the effect looked much more direct, being practically self-working.
I did not bother making a trailer for it since we all know what the effect is and I have very few in stock.
►Color Collision:
An easy and direct multiphase “Oil And Water” routine using Jumbo cards that happens in the spectator’s hands.
The routine taught in the instructions uses a gambling theme, but you can use whatever “Oil And Water” presentation you like. Here is the description of David’s routine:
A gambling routine with eight Jumbo cards where the spectator seemingly has no chance to lose but does when the cards seem to almost visually change places.
Four red and four black Jumbo cards are cleanly alternated in the spectator’s hands, and a bet is made as to the order of the cards. The performer takes the money when the red and blacks are suddenly clearly separated.
Even when the cards are clearly alternated face up and placed in the spectator’s hands, they instantly separate… this is visually stunning!
And again, the performer takes the money!
However, the spectator challenges the magician, double or nothing that he knows the order of the cards in his hands. For a blockbuster climax, without any moves at all the magician again takes the money as the cards are instantly shown alternated!

►Fadeout:
A quick and extremely visual routine that will stun any audience.
A deck of cards is shown front and back. A spectator names one of the cards. It is removed, shown and lost in the deck. The faces of the cards begin to vanish. You deal through the cards; every single one of them is now blank. At about the center of the deck the selected card is seen to be the only one that has not vanished.
It is placed to one side as you continue to show the rest of the deck to be blank. A snap, a wave, and the selected card also turns blank, confirming that it was all an illusion.

►BACK IN STOCK:
I also just received another case of Ascanio’s World Of Knives book that I published a while ago. If you have any interest in the color changing knives plot or tricks with paddles you should have this book. It also comes with a video tutorial of Michael Skinner teaching his routine.
►Ascanio’s World Of Knives:
The main reason the Color-Changing Knives are a classic of magic and a staple of many professional close-up magicians’ repertoire is that you can create beautiful and visual magic with ordinary objects. Once you learn these techniques you will never leave home without a set of Color-Changing Knives in your pocket.

PS: Been busy shoveling snow again but also had a chance to put the final touches on a book that will likely be out next month.
