Robert Reinhart died on Dec. 18 at the age of 93.  He was a contemporary and friend of magicians such as Dai Vernon, Charlie Miller, Cardini, Jarrett and many others of that time. He was also instrumental in the magic they performed. His most recent influences can be seen in Rudy Coby who told MagicTimes that, “Robert Reinhart was my mentor.  He took me under his wing at the age of ten and never stopped teaching me.” The last time Dai Vernon was in New York he remarked, “Bob’s the last one of us left.” Outside of magic he was a reviewer for “Variety” magazine over a period of five decades.(12/20)

Listing the people who made the biggest impacts and differences in northern Nevada entertainment, The Sacramento Bee included David Copperfield and described him as, “He came to us as an unknown magician, basically an opening act for the better-known Shields and Yarnell. He’s since rewritten the manual on illusion…” To read the Dec. 19 article by Mel Shields click: HERE.

The December issue of Atlantic City featured a list of 100 stars which “have added brilliance to the past century in Atlantic City.” Houdini is included among the ten celebrities in the Novelty category where he is described as, “…the king of the escape artists and perhaps the most flamboyant entertainer of the early 20th century. Harry Houdini straitjacketed his taut torso and suspended himself — upside down — high above the gaping multitudes at Million Dollar and Garden piers. Somehow, he always managed to wriggle free and descend to terra firma in one piece.” Also in the Novelty category were the AC favorites the “Wild Man of Borneo,” “King Neptune,” Sonora Carver who was the blind woman who rode horses off the Steel Pier, and Ronald Harrison who in 1952 locked himself in a glass-topped grave for 42 days, reportedly taking only liquid nourishment delivered through a tube.(12/22)
