[MyMagic] Zigged Through

For obvious reasons, I have an affinity to any magic that happens in people’s hands. Below you will find a very simple trick that is fun to do.

►Zig-Zag Penetration:

This is a very easy and clever penetration of a zig-zagged piece of cardboard through a pen, a finger or any object that will fit through the holes in the strip of paper. With a little effort everything can be examined before and after the performance.

The basic routine has you thread a borrowed pen through the four holes in a mysterious looking, accordion-like, cardboard strip.

Your friend firmly holds both ends of the pen, making it impossible for the strip to escape from either side.

You then cover the strip with a handkerchief and gently pull upward, as the strip penetrates through the pen.

►Solomon’s Mind:

This is David Solomon’s first book. It features more than forty of his original card routines and dozens of the techniques used within those routines. It is full of novel handlings and ideas that you will be able to apply to other card effects in your repertoire.

David was one of the longtime members of Chicago’s Magic Round Table during the time Edward Marlo held court. David spent untold hours watching and helping Marlo create card effects and many of those collaborations are included in this book.

A nice feature of the book is Eugene Burger’s input on the routines and the many insightful interviews with David about the magicians he grew up with in the Chicago area, and the stormy controversies that developed.

The routines in the book require minimal to advanced skill but are mostly considered intermediate since David favored well thought out methods with clean and natural handlings. He often eliminated extraneous moves through subtlety, and devilishly clever thinking to create fooling card effects.
