Been working on this product for a while now. You may remember that close to a year and a half ago I introduced you to Christian Scherer’s Japanese coins. They were enlarged replicas of Japanese coins that were in circulation. Although they were beautiful and well made the tiny problem was that due to the very strict counterfeiting laws in Japan it was not a great idea to use them there.
To solve that problem Akemi Yoshida volunteered to go through the many ancient Japanese coins that are no longer in circulation that would also look good for magic. We decided on a coin from the Taisho Era (around 1920) and expanded it to a US Half Dollar size. Akemi also modernized the details, so the coin is more attractive.
We also minted a second coin that was a little larger which allowed us to make a perfect expanded shell with full coverage.
Why should you use our Japanese Coins instead of the ones you already own?
Because almost all the “Chinese” coins that have been used in magic have flaws that keep them from looking real. The characters are often reversed, they spell words in other languages, they often say something silly, or have weird colors that make them look like toys. This is something that always bothered me. I even called them fake Chinese coins when performing with them.
You can now perform with these Japanese coins without feeling guilty about using coins that look like toys or are obviously fake.
►Japanese Coins & Shell Set:
These very special coins are US Half Dollar size, they were stamped in brass, and were given an antique gold finish. The expanded shell was manufactured by making duplicate coins that were a little larger than a half dollar and then a lathe was used to hollow them out and create a perfect shell with full coverage. It is so good that you can show both sides of the shelled coin and you can’t tell that it is there.
The set includes four regular Japanese coins and a matching shell.
BONUS: Every purchase of the set will include access to a 20-minute video tutorial starring David Roth, Derek Dingle, and Michael Gallo.
