I was first introduced to a version of a negative stripper card in the early 1980s when a student of Tony Giorgio really wanted the secret to one if my tricks and he traded his most prized secret in exchange for it.
It wasn’t called a negative stripper then; it actually had no name that I knew of. I played with it, practiced it and finally gave up on the idea of mastering it.
Around ten years ago I bought a jig for around $500 that makes negative strippers. The cards it made were a little different than the one I worked with years earlier but once again I could not use them consistently. I assumed that I just didn’t have the touch.
Fast forward to last month in Buffalo where I met Steph from Slim Magic. He started a company that manufactures special gaffed decks and dice. He was showing me some of the decks he makes and demonstrated his three, four, and five-way negative strippers.
I mentioned that I could never get the hang of using them, so he handed me the deck, told me what to do and all of a sudden, I was stripping out the Queens, Kings, and Aces with ease. It seems that all these years I was trying the very fine work that expert gamblers use, instead of the work for magicians, which have many advantages and I also finally understood what makes it work.
Steph also agreed to make up some decks for me to offer you. This will upset some magicians and gamblers who still think a negative stripper should only be known to a select few and not be widely disseminated.
N3: The Three-Way Negative Stripper:
Unlike the Stripper decks you are familiar with, the N-Stripper can be shuffled by your spectators in anyway they like. The orientation of the cards are not important.
Once you practice and acquire the knack you will be able to strip out the Aces, Kings or Queens by knowing how to hold the deck and slide your fingers along the edges. And of course use cover to hide that action.
In addition to the deck you will also get an online video tutorial on how the deck works and how to use it.
I decided to do a short video trailer to demonstrate what the deck can do without exposing what can be done… If that makes sense.
