There used to be a very popular series of commercials whose tag line was, “When E.F. Hutton talks, people listen…” The magician equivalent of that is likely Jeff McBride who has legions of listeners. He has done it all, thought about it, codified it, lived it, and is happy to share everything he knows.
Twenty years ago, he released two sets of lecture notes where he outlined his thoughts about how to be a successful magician. They are full of solid advice that forces you to evaluate what you are doing as a magician. I highly recommend them.
I was recently able to acquire a small stash that has been in storage ever since. Very limited quantity.
►Pack Small Play Big:
Jeff explains the purpose of the notes: “I want to share with you many of the things I have learned from my tours of the USA, Europe, and Asia. I’ll also give you some practical advice on how to get a show up and running.”
Advice covered: Commando Show, The Right Stuff, Packing Your Personal Stuff, Getting To The Show, Backstage Tips And Tricks, Tips And Tricks Of Rehearsal, Do It Yourself Where You Can, Getting You On Stage, Alternative Openings, Doing The Show/During The Show, Using Mics And Music, Getting Applause And Taking Bows, Immediately After The Show, Staying Alive On Tour, and much more.

►Magician 24/7:
This set of notes is full of advice on how to always be prepared to do magic. As Jeff explains, “There is a difference between a magician and a magic act. A magician is ready and willing to perform 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”
Sections include: A Magician of A Magic Act?, Flight Time… Stage Time, I-mage, En-trance, Magic as an introduction, Casting your circle of influence, Knowing when to stop, At home, Brainstorming and Play, Practice and Rehearsal, Performing magic during monetary transactions, Eye Contact, and much more.

This is your chance to learn some classics of magic like a Ring On String routine, the Three Shell Game, Coins Through The Table, a Two Cup & Ball routine, a Torn & Restored Card, and much more magic and sleight of hand with cards and coins.
Routines include: Finger On The Card, Supershells, The Silver Passage, The Two Goblets, Threshold, The Homing Ring, Eric DeCamps’ The Coin Connection, and Meir Yedid’s Royal Takeover.
The above routines are just the main effects taught. Each section is full of variations, alternate phases, and many techniques. This book can act as a course in intermediate to advanced close-up magic.

►Unbelievalope 2.0:
The self-contained kraft window envelope allows you to show a playing card, piece of paper, or any such object inside and be able to visually switch it for any of the hidden outs (easily have 10-13) inside… making an excellent and direct prediction effect.
The manufacturer accurately describes the effect this way: “A prediction is clearly in view inside the envelope window. It could be a note, a playing card, a bill, or billet. It can then be switched — undetected, seamlessly, and invisibly. The spectator can be burning your hands — and they still will not see it happen.”

►Position Impossible:
More force cards available for what is likely the best gaffed, card to any number you can get.
Brent uses Position Impossible to close his shows and he even performed it on Penn & Teller Fool Us. It is a very easy, yet impossible looking, routine where a selected card is found at a position in the deck that is named by the spectator. Best of all, the other cards in the deck can be shown to be all different.

“The more time you spend everyday doing magic the better you will get performing magic.”
