Perhaps I mentioned this before but one of my best-selling products of all time is my Fadeout routine. I recently made a bunch of them while binging some mindless TV shows.
The routine has an interesting origin story. After Marshall Brodien showed me his work on a Joe Berg routine, I began playing with it and customizing it to my performing style. A short time later at one of the NYC Card Conferences the theme was magic with blank cards, so I decided to include it in my presentation and was surprised at how many people were fooled.
After the session Max Maven cornered me and told me that I should market it. I didn’t think it would be a viable product but because he liked it, I decided to write it up on my laptop. Around ten years later, I was putting together a new lecture and needed a new product to sell. I made up a few sets and was shocked at the demand, so I finally decided to widely release it.
I then showed it to Marshall (I used to work at his booth at the NY Toy Fair tradeshows) where he said, “You have to teach this to me, I have no idea what you are doing.” Overall, I am very happy that I released it.
I was also able to produce a PDF download for one of David Solomon’s early lecture notes from 2005. Take a look below.
►Fadeout:
A quick and extremely visual routine that will stun any audience.
A deck of cards is shown front and back. A spectator names one of the cards. It is removed, shown and lost in the deck. The faces of the cards begin to vanish. You deal through the cards; every single one of them is now blank. At about the center of the deck the selected card is seen to be the only one that has not vanished.
It is placed to one side as you continue to show the rest of the deck to be blank. A snap, a wave, and the selected card also turns blank, confirming that it was all an illusion.

►2005 LVMI Lecture Notes:
David Solomon continuously changed his lectures based on where he was lecturing. He included his latest and favorite routines, improved versions of previous routines, as well as the stuff he was currently playing with.
This set of lecture notes was produced in 2005 for his lecture at the Las Vegas Magic Invitational (LVMI) Close-Up Convention.
Routines explained: SolMar Ace Assembly Updated, Just Friends, Jokers Are Wild, Clearly Up The Ladder, Pure Vice-Versa, and Blank Thought. Also includes explanations to the many sleights used within the routines.

►BACK IN STOCK:
Michael Breggar has been releasing books, tricks, and columns at a very fast pace over the past few years and has built up quite a following. Perhaps his best original routine is his Flat Dice which I was able to get a few more of.
►Flat Dice:
The basic routine starts out with six dice which are tossed around while your back is turned. The spectator totals all the numbers as you reveal the total without ever turning around.
For the second phase you introduce three more flat dice, making it even more impossible, and repeat the sequence to tell them what number they are thinking of. Only this time you write a prediction while your back is turned.
The final phase starts with the spectator rolling all nine dice, turn them all so the odds or evens are showing, they then turn any of the dice over and total the face-up numbers. The total matches the photographic prediction that has been in full view.

Repeating this from the last newsletter. Let me know if you think I should consider releasing some coin specific routines for them.

►SemiQ:
SemiQ is the easily pronounceable name for Semiquincentennial, a real word that refers to the 250th Anniversary of the United States.
The US Mint has announced that all the coins minted during this year will have special designs commemorating the anniversary. Just like during 1776 when they released Bicentennial coins.
Here is a photo of the new half dollars that are scheduled to be released in early May (luckily the Kennedys will be back next year).
I have been thinking about releasing some coin routines using these new half dollars but, in most cases, I think it would be a waste of money and energy. Was considering a routine where you start with a Kennedy, turn it into a Bicentennial and then into a SemiQ to hand out as a gift while explaining the history of the US.
Might do a few Eraser Coins though. In either case I think they would be great gifts at the end of a simple one-coin routine.

“Call it conjuring, prestidigitation, magic, sleight of hand, tricks, or whatever you will, this is a hobby which will enable you to transcend the ordinary, to seem to be able to set natural laws at variance, in short, to baffle and bemuse the laity.”
