Today’s digital release is all about Rafael Benatar’s Elegant Cups & Balls video download. Just as important as the techniques taught on the video and the routine itself are the sections about theory and psychology which can be applied to any routine.

For example, his discussion of In Transit Motion as clarified and applied to magic by Ascanio looks at when you can do secret moves during a routine, so the audiences completely ignore them and don’t even sense them.

Rafael gives an example that if someone saw a person push back a curtain and peek out a window all they would notice and remember is the peeking out the window and not the pushing back of the Curtin or leaning forward, because they only remember the important part.

As it is applied to the cups and balls or to magic, if there are two objects on the table and the left hand moves one of the objects out of the way or to one side (for a justified reason) then nobody will notice what the right hand is doing (within reason).

That is an oversimplification of the theory, but you get the idea. It is a good thing to keep in mind when you are choreographing and blocking your magic. Especially when the hand will be doing something that will ordinarily have to be hidden or make you feel guilty.

Remember: Always do the dirty work while the other hand is doing an In Transit Action.
