MyMagic eNewsletter #1,342

Last week I introduced you to a download about magic with Micro-Coins. Today I am offering you the Micro-Coins you can use for the routines. These are excellent quality and look like real miniature pennies. In addition to doing magic with them they are “an impossible object” that can be given out as a souvenir. Plus, a bonus tutorial by Aquaman!
You will also find copies of Bobby Bernard’s first booklet. I somehow managed to get all the remaining copies. I knew Bobby well because he used to regularly come to NYC. He excelled in two things, dice stacking and making a coin star. He tried to teach me both. I was able to do them, but not well or repeatedly. This booklet is probably the best source of how to perform an ungimmicked coin star.
►Bernard’s Lesson On Coin Magic:
The highlight of the booklet is the work on the T. Nelson Downs’ Coin Star. You are first treated with a discussion about the original gimmicked version with rare screenshots of Downs performing it. Then you are taught Bobby Bernard’s ungaffed handling. This is perhaps the best description of this elusive flourish/technique.
Contents include: The Coins, The Hands, Palming A Coin, Thumb Grip, Stretch Palm, Crease Palm, After Ramsay, Production In The Air, Double Production, The Miser’s Misers Dream, The Spellbound Move, The Hummer Coin Penetration, The Downs’ Coin Star, The Bernard Lesson On The Coin Star, The Coins, The Condition Of The Hands, Performing The Coin Star, Placing The Coins On The Fingers And Thumb, The Vanish, and The Production.

►Micro-Pennies:
Micro-Pennies were originally a novelty toy that quickly became a magic prop. They are basically tiny reproductions of real US copper pennies.
They were often used as surprise endings for coin routines where coins shrank or turned into a bunch of tiny pennies. They also make nice gifts at the end of routines. There have been many routines published in books and magazines and even a booklet about them.

►Penny Fantasy:
This booklet revolves around magic using Micro-Pennies which are tiny reproductions of US Pennies.
It begins with Steve Dacri explaining his Penny Fantasy routine using five Micro-Pennies and a Jumbo Penny and ends with Sid Lorraine explaining 13 additional routines and ideas using the Micro-Pennies.

►Aquaman Coin Vanish:
For some weird reason, that I cannot explain, I started watching the Super Friends cartoon from the 1970s, while packaging tricks. During season two they started teaching some simple magic tricks. I took notes on which episodes had tricks so I could share the videos with you. Unfortunately, Prime TV decided to start charging for them as soon as they noticed I was watching…
But the good news is that I found my favorite segment online. It fits perfectly with this newsletter and is more than ideal if you want to vanish one of the above Micro-Pennies.

►BACK IN STOCK:
I have sold hundreds of these inexpensive Gambler’s Rings. I think most are going to actual “gamblers”! But I think they make great conversation pieces during gambling themed card routines. Either way I just received a bunch of the larger sizes.
►Gambler’s Ring:
This is a finger ring made of titanium steel that is brought to a high shine so it can be used as a mirror/shiner to see the cards as they are being dealt off the deck.
It also has a blister built in to use as a card punch so you can peg cards during play or while doing magic. Can also be used to mark, bills, envelopes or any such items.

►LATEST MYMAGIC RELEASE:
►Coin Clip:
Christian Scherer redesigned the original Slydini Coin Clip in the 1980s, to make it much easier to handle and the perfect size for four half dollars. It also allows for more natural handlings.
The video tutorial is the most comprehensive treatise on the subject ever presented. It includes many of the common methods as well as little known applications for close-up and stage. Subjects include: Coin Insertions (7 methods), Hand Steals (6 methods), Hand To Hand Toss, Lapping (4 methods), Almost Perfect Vanish, Sleeving (2 methods), Topit, NOW-U-IT Vanish, Pull (3 methods), Pendulum Principle/Upside-Down Topit (2 Methods), Baby Bottle Nipple, Silly Putty, and much more.

PS: I always spend time coming up with the titles of these newsletters. I also know that some of you see the titles as puzzles to connect with what is in the newsletters. Most are easy, for example: Aqua Mini Stars is used to let you know that I will be talking about Aquaman, Mini Coins, and Coin Stars!
PS2: If you did not watch my interview, to learn how I think, you can catch it: HERE
“Coins are handled by everybody every day so are accepted for what they are and perhaps of all the objects handled by magicians, are those least likely to arouse suspicion.”
…Lewis Ganson (Bernard’s Lesson On Coin Magic, 1978)
