After mentioning the Hot Doggie! routine in the last newsletter, that I released almost 40 years ago, I was asked about it. I found a copy of the booklet and was able to make it into an inexpensive pdf.

Two of my exclusive items have just come back after a while of being missing in action.

►Hot Doggie!:

This PDF booklet was the instruction manual for the Hot Doggie! magic trick which included a rubber hot dog. You can use any toy, or real hot dog for the routine.

The basic routine begins with you noticing that there is a paper dog on your lapel. You grab the dog to display it and say “Isn’t it cute? It’s a little doggie. This is what they make hot dogs out of.”

You remove a lighter from your pocket and flick it on, as if you are going to set the dog on fire. “Really,” as you say this you set fire to the dog, it will burst into flames, and you are now holding a real-looking HOT DOG!

The 73 contributors are a who’s who of close-up magic. This system allows you to place the overlapping coins in your hands, on the table, or even in the spectators’ hands.

►Multiplying Sponge Bananas:

This set of bananas mimics Dan Garrett’s original ideas and includes his baby bananas bonus ending. The basic routine has you multiplying the bananas and putting them away. As a finale all the bananas you produced vanish and the spectator who was holding the last two bananas now has three extra baby bananas in their hand.

►World Famous Banana & Pickle Tricks:

The Multiplying Bananas have become a classic of magic. It was based on the Multiplying Sausages routine and came into existence when Al Cohen found a guy who was willing to hand-cut and paint sponges. Later Dan Garrett, with permission, taught himself how to make them, and popularized the routines, added the baby bananas and released routines with sponge pickles, carrots, and teeth.

On this video tutorial Dan performs his Banana Routine during a live children’s show and then explains in detail how to perform the moves and the routine. He then performs the version using sponge pickles and explains all the details of that routine. Both routines use the same techniques and structures.
