At some point I started seeing the DIY acronym everywhere and I had no idea what it meant. When I looked it up it stood for Do It Yourself (the M in the title is for Magic). I guess it is a trend now to build your own stuff using manufactured components… is it really building? Or is it just assembly?
I remembered that in the 1970s-80s Art Kahn who owned Zanadu Magic started manufacturing magic kits which you assembled. You basically got a bunch of precut pieces of wood and assembly instructions. You would have to glue, nail, or screw the pieces of wood together and then paint them to have a custom wooden magic prop. I don’t think it was successful.
Of course, paper money magic was often a DIY project since you had to make your own gimmicks using the real bills you want to perform with. What made me think of this are the two routines below.
The first one, Treasury, is the one I have been obsessing with. I spent the $30 or so to buy the necessary erasers and sandpaper to make my own gimmicks and had the opportunity to perform it live a few times. Although the routine that comes with it is excellent, I have been using it as a simple revelation with various routines and presentation ideas. I really like it and can see myself carrying it with me from now on.
►Treasury:
At its core this is an outstanding and memorable card reveal. The tutorial teaches you how to erase parts of the US bills and replace the erased area with the name of a selected card using the supplied gimmick, which is set up to stamp the identity of the Queen of Hearts, Seven of Spades, or Ace of Diamonds.
Comes with the gimmick that stamps the force cards and access to a video tutorial that teaches you how to prepare the bills. In addition to what is supplied you will need to supply your own erasers and sandpaper.

►Magic Money:
This is more than just one trick than you can carry in your pocket. It is a kit for making your own sets of gaffed bills using your own money and the supplied gaffs. You will be able to perform appearances, transformations, permutations, disappearances, changes and much more.
Comes with gaffs to make US bills, Euros, and Chinese Yuans. Also comes with special sticky stuff, magnets and access to a 50+ minute online tutorial that teaches everything.

By the way, the other DIY routine I made up for myself and love performing is Luke Dancy’s Misprint (HERE). Have been opening with a version of it and then going into Treasury.
Stay safe, Meir
PS: I was thinking about releasing all the Mike Bornstein products I own the rights to as DIY downloads. Maybe now is the time…
