I find it fascinating how often magicians mention that one of the first important magic tricks they purchased at a magic shop was Glorpy or a Haunted Hank.

Glorpy was originally created and released by Bill Madden and Bernie Trueblood’s company Madblood Creations around sixty years ago. It immediately became a best-seller because it embodies many of the qualities of a great trick: visual, impossible looking, even scary, easy to understand, easy to learn, spooky, and so much more…

I would not be surprised if it, and its variants, sold more than a million pieces over that time.

The reason I mention this is that I just received a limited amount from India of a version that is similar in method to the original but the graphic on the silk is unique. It is a skull, which allows for more spooky presentations.

    Skullorpy:

This version of the classic Glorpy/Haunted Hank is based on the original, with a minor gimmick variant, and has a skull design on the silk. The design can create some additional presentational opportunities that can add a level of mystery, spookiness, or the macabre.

The basic routine involves you folding the silk into quarters and in a ghostly manner the center of the silk begins to move and rise on your command. It can even be made to jump into the air.

When I introduced you to this puzzle/illusion, that is guaranteed to fool, it sold out in a few hours. Funny thing is that I got emails and phone calls from magicians who were fooling themselves by following the instructions but still could not wrap their heads around what was happening. I just got another shipment so get it while you can.

    Fishy Fish:

This is a self-working and very deceptive puzzle/illusion where you show a picture of a fish that runs across three postcards. The cards are mixed so they are obviously out of order.

You turn the cards face down for a moment and when they are turned face up the fish is reassembled as it was before the mixing.

If you are not familiar with the principle involved, you will be fooled the first time you see it.

    â–ºeBay:

Just added two more original Jerry’s Nugget decks and some other stuff you might like. As usual all auctions will end on Sunday night.

    Stay happy, Meir

PS: Off to Hollywood in a few days for a secret project. Can’t wait to share the details with you.
