Magician, rabbit to headline NE Phila. fest in Oxford Circle
DEREK "Dee the Magician" Lee, who plans to delight hundreds of kids at the Northeast Celebration in Oxford Circle on Saturday, said his rabbit, Pinky, is the key to capturing young hearts. "I just show up with Pinky," Lee said, "and kids line up to take pictures with the bunny rabbit. I could set up the bunny on a stand on Frankford Avenue and Pinky would stop kids on the street, who would say, 'Oh, my God! It's a bunny rabbit!' "

The idea is to see who can make the best trick using ordinary objects: Spam, a Super Soaker, eyeglasses, a chalk board and so on.

Cheap Trick: Most Magicians Are Lazy Hacks -Daily Beast
Usually, magicians spend months--years--developing new routines. But on Wizard Wars, they do it practically on the spot. And we producers force some weird objects on them. Spam, squirt guns, earthworms, pirate costumes--stuff like that. So you’d think the routines would suck. And you’d be dead wrong. The routines kick ass. The Spam vanishes and appears inside the squirt gun. The earthworms pickpocket a dollar from some guy’s wallet. The pirate costume vanishes into thin air…while it’s being worn by one of the contestants.

Behind the Scenes of a Reality Show Where Magicians Fight for Fame -Wired
The video comes from show creator Rick Lax, who shot the footage during the making of Wizard Wars. The program, basically a reality show where magicians face off in something akin to Iron Chef (the original Japanese version, not that sorry Americanized version) but with magicians, started as an internet video made by Lax and some fellow Las Vegas wizards. After the clip made the rounds online (and possibly at the suggestion of WIRED) Syfy turned it into a series judged by Penn & Teller. “Walking around the set was surreal. Such an upgrade from my living room,” Lax says, referring to the set for his video clip...

Justin Willman is a comedian and magician who has appeared on “The Tonight Show” and “Chelsea Lately,” among others. His comedy-flavored “miracles” have earned him a devoted following. His neatest trick so far was receiving a standing ovation from President Barack Obama following a private White House performance. (Willman used magnets for the feat.) After breaking both arms in a bicycle accident, Willman began learning card tricks in lieu of enduring physical therapy. His mother calls him “Justin Kredible.”

A Japanese American magician named 'Honesty' tricks out -Public Radio International
He makes cards disappear and end up in his shoe. He makes small rubber balls vanish and then takes them out of his mouth. He balances coins on the tip of each of his fingers making the shape of a flower. His tricks are the best I have ever seen a street performer do. "If you believe everything your eyes tell you, you'll believe a lot of stuff in the world that just isn't true," he says. It's an ironic thing for this 22-year-old named Makoto to say. His name means "honesty" in Japanese. But he says he loves the inadvertant joke....
