American magician Criss Angel accuses Dynamo of stealing tricks - The Sun
Criss said: “It’s called stealing. It’s unfortunate that some people have the lack of creativity and ingenuinity to be able to come up with their original stuff. But do you know what? I never look over my shoulder.” He claims that Dynamo – real name STEVEN FRAYNE – pinched his walking on water stunt, and even the way he poses like Jesus... But Dynamo reckons Criss is just attention-seeking. He said: “I have performed over 300 pieces of magic, out of which a small number have also been performed by Criss Angel in a completely different way. Criss walked across a pool whereas I walked across the Thames. “I am from a different generation to him and have no desire to be like him.”

The Tricky Business of Copyrighting Magic, Performances, and Tricks of the Trade
And lastly, maybe hope for the magic community as a whole lies in the illusions that haven’t yet been created — in innovating the art form. At least, that’s what Copperfield thinks: “I believe it’s possible to achieve justice in the American court system, but it takes a lot of time, energy, and money. It’s not always worth focusing important bandwidth on that when you can apply the same time and energy to creating something new and different.”

Seven questions with Penn Jillette of 'Penn & Teller,' Vegas - Penn Live
"I wasn't really interested in magic. Almost the contrary. I was a juggler... And then I was so repulsed by magicians I saw on TV and so upset by the scam artists working as magicians, people claiming to be psychics. I wanted nothing to do with them. Then I met Teller and James Randi of the James Randi Educational Foundation, the one who busts all the psychics, [they] taught me that magic could be done morally, and he [Teller] could do the truth while doing things that weren't true and that deal could be made with the audience. The idea of telling the truth through magic is when I got interested. So really, my serious interest in magic starts by meeting Teller."..

Meet the New Generation of Jewish Magicians - Jewish Daily Forward
For his part, Max Maven, an iconic mentalist and an authority on Jews in magic, maintains that Jews celebrate intellectual achievement and as such have been traditionally drawn to magic along with stand-up comedy. ...But the primary reason for the large number of Jews in magic (at least historically) was plain old opportunity, which did not exist for Jews in other fields, Maven says. Well-known Jewish magicians existed as far back as the 1700s, but didn’t really come into their own until the mid-to-late-19th century.
