US magician burned in Dominican TV 'stunt'
A magician from the United States said Monday he is getting medical treatment and pursuing legal action after the host of a TV show in the Dominican Republic set him on fire in an apparent stunt. Wayne Houchin said he is receiving treatments for burns on his face, scalp and hands that occurred when the guest host of the "Closer to the Stars," program abruptly tossed a fistful of flaming liquid at him during a Nov. 26 taping of the show.

Magician sues over TV fireball stunt
A US magician is taking legal action after a TV host in the Dominican Republic set him on fire in an apparent stunt. Wayne Houchin, pictured, is receiving treatments for burns on his face, scalp and hands that occurred when the guest host of the 'Closer To The Stars' show abruptly tossed a fistful of flaming liquid at him during a November 26 recording of the show. "I am still in a lot of pain but I am recovering," Mr Houchin (29) said.

Magician set on fire on TV: It was no act
Many viewers assumed it was a stunt or a magician's trick, but Wayne Houchin said it was an unprovoked attack. An arrest warrant has been issued for Barazarte. Magician and cultural anthropologist Paul Draper told KCBS that, in many cultures, performance magic is seen as supernatural, and that might have been what provoked the attack on Houchin.

Dominican Host: Burning US Magician's Head 'An Accident' - Fox News
A Dominican TV show accused of setting American magician Wayne Houchin’s head on fire claims the incident was an accident. Franklin Barazarte said in a telephone interview with the Associated Press Tuesday from New York that he tossed flaming liquid on Houchin’s head as a “blessing” during a Nov. 26 taping of the show, “Closer To The Stars.” He said it was a demonstration with magical religious overtones that turned out badly.

Alan J. Kanter, a retired food-distribution executive in Aventura, Fla., has long covered his walls with early-1900s posters for magicians. The performers commissioned portraits of themselves seeming to sever heads and coax witches out of caldrons. Mr. Kanter, 65, also spent decades trying to develop a museum, theater and hotel with a magic theme, where he could display his collection. He considered sites in New York and Los Angeles, but could find no major backers. “I could never get enthusiasm on the part of other collectors to throw in with me and really pursue this,” he said in a recent phone interview.
