Magician's sleight of hand wins competition
Fred Nelson and Zappo (Larry Wright) were winners in the Society of American Magicians Assembly 112's annual Stage Competition, held Aug. 15, at Round Table Pizza in Concord. Nelson took the novice category and Zappo the professional category before a crowd of more than 40 people. Nelson preformed the classic magic routine, Chinese linking rings, and Zappo preformed a series of card/mind reading routines.

Master magician K. Lal dead
K. Lal, renowned magician and master of illusions, passed away here early Sunday due to old age-related problems, a family member said. He was 88 and is survived by his wife Pushpa, a son and two daughters.
