A Conversation with Greg Frewin‎ -
What you have to understand, for me at least, at the end of the day people come here to be entertained. It’s kind of like a stand-up comedian. We all kind of know how to tell a joke, not well, but we sort of know how to do it. However, you’d still go see a professional comedian because you want to be entertained. So I think for me the one thing over the years that I’ve tried to develop to the best of my ability is to perform for the audience and have them like me and in turn enjoy themselves, whether I do a small trick or a big trick. I like the combination of all of them because it’s not just big, big, big or flash, flash, flash. You need a little bit of comedy to get the light moments, a little bit of drama, a little bit of action. It’s about building that connection with the audience.

Watch a magician serve German beer using an iPad -
What’s better than an iPad or a glass filled to the rim with beer? It’s an iPad that can serve a full glass of beer from a seemingly never-empty keg, of course.
In the video below, you can watch magician and artist Simon Pierro put on a show at the world famous German “Hofbraeuhaus” in Munich, Germany....

Randy Pitchford And The Perfect Shuffle‎ - Kotaku Australia
Before Randy Pitchford became the President of Gearbox studios, before he released Borderlands, before he worked on Duke Nukem 3D in the mid 90s — before all of that Randy Pitchford was a magician. A very good one. We spoke to Randy about his past, and how somehow managed to transition so seamlessly from magic to game design. Randy was two years old when Cardini died; too young to remember meeting him, but stories from his Great Aunt -- Cardini’s wife and long time assistant -- inspired a lifelong interest in magic. “Everyone,” begins Randy, “every kid at some point was given a magic set. “But the fact that Cardini was related to me, and he was this amazing famous magician, it made magic intriguing to me, and it felt accessible. Someone with the same DNA as me could learn this stuff and do it.”...

What can magic teach us about science? -
Magicians often know things about human behavior before humans do. They understand how to fool us, which means they have to understand how we normally behave. To circumvent our logic, they have to know their way around it. Take magician Apollo Robbins. He’s got a theory about how to trick us that has to do with how he moves his hands. He thought that if he moved his hand in a straight line, the audience would focus on the beginning and end points of his movement, and not in between. But if he moved his hand in a curved motion, they’d follow the whole way along...

Paul Daniels at the Mill at Sonning‎ - Reading Post
Paul Daniels spends a lot more time on Twitter than on the radio. The 74-year-old has sent nearly 22,000 tweets from his account. “It’s incredible. It’s so easy. It saves me hours of answering emails,” he said. “Being 74 doesn’t bother me at all. My mum’s 96. Her name’s Nancy.” With plenty of spring in his step it looks likely Paul will still be touring and performing in years to come. And to learn a lesson from the enthusiastic pair – when life deals you a bad hand, as it did for Paul on New Year’s Day, it seems that laughter is always the best medicine....

Murray keeps laughs coming along with magic staples‎ - Las Vegas Review-Journal
For Murray (Sawchuck), it's not so much the shiny blue suit (itself revealed in a magic trick, one of several outfits he sports within a single hour) as the designer glasses and the bleached hair tortured vertical. The look is good for repeated jokes - "If Lady Gaga and Andy Warhol had a baby, this is it" - as well as T-shirt designs, should you care to buy one after the show.

The Secret to Becoming a Magician (in 1882) -
What's amazing about the complete scan of 1882's brilliant, batty, bizarre How to Become a Magician over at the Public Domain Review isn't just the fact that it tells you how to make ice in a "red-hot vessel" (you'll need a platinum cup and "sulphuric" acid). Rather, it's that this book has that weird Victorian moralism that doesn't quite fit into the world of illusions.
