David Ben's tricks of the trade - National Post
David Ben's Natural Magick is Ben’s first show since Tricks in 2004, the longest gap in the 50-year-old magician’s career. Lest you think he’s been sitting on his wand, Ben has kept busy writing books, publishing a quarterly magazine on magic history, and running Magicana, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the advancement and exploration of magic as a performing art. The 90-minute show takes its title from Giambattista della Porta’s famous tome, first published in 1558, the first book to describe optical illusions. “I think this is the best work we’ve ever done,” he says. “I’m at a point in my life where I’m hopefully hitting my prime.”

Penn & Teller: Fool Us was nearly the perfect magic show
The first act on tonight's programme performed one of those gripping is-she-or-isn't-she-being-sawn-in-half tricks, much to the audience's delight. At the end of it, it was made clear that Penn & Teller had figured out the secret behind the trick, but then no one bothered to tell us what that was. Now, we all know magicians aren't supposed to reveal each other's secrets, but bizarrely, the mechanics behind other acts on tonight's show were happily exposed by Penn and Teller, leaving us with the bitter taste of inconsistency in our mouths.

Penn & Teller reveal the secrets of TV magic
Disguise is better than distraction: You can never make an entire audience look in a single place. Say I want to palm a card. You must make your secret move look like something else – a policy followed by most politicians. ...Teller
