In Haley Tanner’s wonderful and wrenching debut novel, “Vaclav & Lena,” the title characters are Russian immigrants who meet at age 6 in an English as a Second Language class at their Brooklyn school, “with all the other kids who have stinky lunches.” Since then their relationship has progressed. It is now defined as magician and assistant. They practice their act every day after school in Vaclav’s bedroom, writing lists of plans and supplies on notebook paper, then folding and sealing them with candle wax.

Cho, 30, aims to spend 100 hours in the kiosk, situated at the Huashan Creative Park in Taipei, breathing through one tube and being fed water through another....

As Angel explained recently during a phone interview with Electronic House, because many of his mind-blowing illusions often incorporate technology such as video projectors and huge screens, it seemed only fitting that his own Las Vegas home, known as Serenity, would have a projection system, too. His custom-designed, 875-square-foot private theater may seat 20 instead of hundreds, but it manages to stir up plenty of drama and excitement, says the six-time Magician of the Year honoree and Magic Hall of Famer. He made sure to weave more than a little magic into his home theater while designing the space with custom electronics pro Matt Smith of Fusion Home Systems, Las Vegas. It’s only when Angel presses a button on his portable Crestron touchpanel that the 135-inch Stewart Filmscreen screen and JVC video projector reveal themselves. “At home, as it is when I’m on stage, it’s all about creating an illusion … about the element of surprise.” ...

Magician's stunt goes wrong at Atlanta Motor Speedway - Atlanta Journal Constitution
Moodini, whose real name is Michael Anthony Mooney, feels lucky to be alive. The Atlanta magician's stunt at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Thursday night left him with broken bones -- an ankle, a wrist, a finger and his clavicle, Channel 2 Action News reports. Between races, he was supposed to escape from being chained at his wrists to a car, while his head was covered with a bag, before the car sped away and took him with it, the report said. It didn't work out that way and he was dragged down the track....

Magician Muthukad chosen for ''magic oscar''
Kerala-based illusionist Gopinath Muthukad has won this year''s Merlin Award, an international honour billed as the "Oscar" for the magic fraternity. Muthukad was chosen for the award, sponsored by the International Magicians Society in the US, in view of his contribution to the art, a release issued by the illusionist said here. The award is given to magicians who have achieved the highest level in their craft both on national and international stages....

Magician Hospitalized After Stunt Accident - WSB-TV Atlanta
Michael Anthony Mooney goes by the stage name of Moodini. On Thursday night, he was performing a stunt between races whereby he was chained at his wrists to a car. His head was covered with a black bag. In the stunt, the car speeds off and Mooney has just seconds to escape out of the shackles before he's hurled down the track. He said he's done the stunt twice before without any problems, but Thursday, he said his timing was off and he got pulled down the track....
