Jim SwainPictured is Jim Swain with one of his latest eBook novels that are now available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. He just release his 8th and 9th Tony Valentine books, "Wild Card" and "Jackpot" which are by far my favorite non-magic reads. He also released "The Man Who Cheated Death" whose main character is a magician and Houdini's nephew who is being stalked by a crazed killer. Swain told MagicTimes that "The book is filled with magic and many well-known magicians have bit roles." (10/15/10: A MagicTimes photo).

The magic world changed again. There’s a new breed of prestidigitator in our midst, probably dreamt up by that same sleight of hand press agent. Magician/Prestidigitator is out and the Illusionist is in. The new rage on the stage. A smooth, skillful performer with so-called unequaled magical powers who creates mind-boggling illusions. Illusions that would take the art of magic to a new level.

Swain is Rolling the Dice on Ebooks - A Writer's Life
I’ve been a magician since I was a kid, and used to hang out with guys in New York who cheated in private card games. They’d come into Tannen’s magic shop and blow our minds with their skill. In the late 1970s, I was visiting Las Vegas, and saw a guy switch a card while playing blackjack. It was amazing how skillful he was. I later told a magician friend of mine named Mike Skinner who lived in Las Vegas and knew a thing or two about cheating...

The Indianapolis-based magician Devin Stewart entertained an audience of 65 with an encore of last year's Great Escape, this time with a couple of new twists: He traded in his straitjacket for 100 feet of nylon rope, and the whole affair was projected onto a screen outside the museum. When visiting the jail for the first time in the summer of 2009, the 22-year-old hatched his idea. "I said I could break out of here; they looked at me and laughed," said Stewart. "I was really anxious to prove myself." He came back to reprise the act this year, despite the inhospitable conditions.
